David Lucido is Managing Director of Sentient Hubs, an advanced Decision Support Platform that solves complex multi-factor problems through collaboration.
Sentient Hubs is a cloud-based platform for integrated simulation and system-wide optimisation addressing the need to accurately model and account for the cumulative and cascading impacts of decisions across economic, environmental, and social dimensions.
David founded Sentient Hubs in 2017 following the acquisition of world-class science and technology from the University of Western Australia.
David’s vision to create a collaborative modelling platform to accelerate the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and address demand for science-based Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) by simulating cumulative impacts has produced a breakthrough innovation for global-to-local impact.
David is now dedicated to enabling the shift from ‘Smart’ to Sustainable by helping decision makers reduce cost, waste and carbon footprint by anticipating the cascading impacts of today’s decisions into the future.
Lee has over 20 years international experience spanning corporate, government and academic domains. Lee's work is at the forefront of scientific endeavour, and includes the merging of many technologies. He is the architect behind the Sentient Hubs Platform and heads the research and development program.
Dr Sarah Dods, BE (PhD) MSc (Honours)
Advanced Analytics - Energy, Advisor
Sarah is a PhD qualified Physicist/Electrical Engineer with 20+ years of STEM-focussed roles. Her career spans Australia’s “deep-tech” innovation system, and includes a stint in academia solving problems in the NBN before it existed, leading to co-founding a Silicon Valley spin-out. She has led CSIRO research programs focussed on Digital Health and the Digital Economy, and was responsible for implementing CSIRO’s entrepreneurship and innovation program. Her corporate experience includes leadership roles with Telstra Health, Australia Post and AGL.
Sarah has developed outstanding skills in leading through high levels of uncertainty in the early stages of technical initiatives, untangling complexity and building high performing, diverse, expert teams, bridging the different perspectives and values between scientific rigour and commercial imperatives.
Dr Dods qualifications include a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Physics and a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, both from the University of Melbourne. She has three patents and 70 refereed publications to her name, is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and sits on the Australian National Committee to the IEC with Standards Australia.
S. Karthik Mukkavilli, BE(Hons), MSc, PhD
AI/ML Computational Sustainability, Advisor
Karthik leads artificial intelligence efforts to help drive Earth sciences and global sustainability initiatives. He founded climate-tech AI startups with teams out of London, Montreal and Silicon Valley, supported by the McConnell Foundation, Creative Destruction Lab, Microsoft AI for Earth, and European Space Agency.
He is the founding chair of AI for Earth Sciences, and serves on the American Meteorological Society AI committee. He worked on the US Department of Energy’s exascale (billion-dollar) computing initiative with University of California and Berkeley Lab to advance Earth system models with machine learning.
During his Postdoc fellowships, he worked for a Turing Laureate in deep learning at MILA starting new AI initiatives in climate change, collaborated with IPCC Nobel Prize winning climate scientists at Berkeley, and at McGill Centre for Intelligent Machines he led AI for the environment, benchmarking efforts. He was a CSIRO Office of Chief Executive scholar in their Oceans & Atmosphere Flagship, Energy, Weather and Computational Informatics, Units, and a Research Fellow on Project Drawdown’s NY Times Bestseller.
Gabriel Thoumi, CFA, FRM
Multi Award-Winning ESG Specialist
Adjunct Lecturer at Johns Hopkins University - Financing a Sustainable World
Gabriel is Founder, Responsible Alpha, a thematic investment research manager with over 12 years’ experience as an award-winning ESG analyst (2014, 2015, 2020 & 2021), fellowship recipient (2001, 2002, 2005 & 2007), member of various NGO boards and scientific and financial technical committees, and advisor applying his scientific and investment technical skills to investors, lenders, exchanges, rating agencies, and companies across many sectors of the real-economy to support sustainable and equitable investment strategies.
He has published over 70 thematic research reports employing ESG integration skills, a couple of peer review papers, and hundreds of news articles on capital markets and ESG integration.
He is an adjunct lecturer at Johns Hopkins University where he teaches Financing a Sustainable World. He has also taught at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan and at other universities. He holds the Certified Ecologist and LEED AP designations from the Ecological Society of America and the US Green Building Council respectively.
Finally, he spent almost a decade in public service as a volunteer regional environment and energy commissioner supporting a sustainable and just transition economy for the Washington, DC Metro region. His hobbies include mountaineering and alpinism. ocean sailing, running, and reading.
He splits his time between Austria where he lives with his wife and spending time in Washington DC and New York City. He has an MBA and MSc in Sustainable Systems from the University of Michigan.
Gillian Marcelle, PhD
Impact Investment Specialist
Gillian is an established thought leader in the impact investment space, where her contributions and perspectives on diversity, inclusion, accountability and alignment with the SDGs are becoming influential. She is a senior leader in economic development and international business with a proven track record in attracting investment to emerging markets.
She is currently the managing member of Resilience Capital Ventures LLC and provides strategic guidance to a portfolio of commercial start-ups and social ventures. In the Caribbean region, she assisted international investor MPC Capital AG with its capital raising efforts in renewable energy and energy efficiency and initiated a blended finance partnership with the Clinton Global Initiative.
Her Sub-Saharan African activities include serving as a non-Executive Director of Tafari Capital Pty Ltd., an innovative fintech start-up in Joburg, South Africa. She previously held staff positions with the International Finance Corporation, as well as, with JP Morgan Chase. Gillian has also advised the United Nations on impact investment and innovation for the benefit of the global South.
Miguel Mujica Mota, PhD
Aviation Modelling, Simulation, & Optimisation Specialist
Miguel is an internationally recognised expert in aviation modelling, simulation, and optimisation. He has published multiple studies on sustainability problems related to airport operations including emissions, efficiency, and CO2 footprint.
Miguel is the Scientific director for Europe of International Group on Aviation and Multimodal Transport (www.igamt.eu), and is an Associate Professor at the Aviation Academy of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. He holds a PhD and a MSc. in informatics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and a PhD and MSc. in operations research from the National University of Mexico. He is the current president of EUROSIM (www.eurosim.info) the Federation of Simulation Societies in Europe and the Chair of the Dutch Benelux Simulation Society (www.DutchBSS.org).
Miguel is the co-author of four books and has published more than one hundred scientific and general papers. Miguel's core competencies include: Aviation Simulation & Modelling, Algorithm Development, Optimisation, AI, Machine Learning and Air Traffic Management (ATM).
Dr Patrick Scolyer-Gray
Patrick has a deep understanding of how human factors contribute to, and are affected by, complexity and uncertainty. As a Cyber-Sociologist, Patrick is a socio-technical specialist with an established reputation for his ongoing contributions to cross-disciplinary research and problem-solving.
Transport, Logistics & Infrastructure Specialist
Pascal is a Transport, Logistics and Infrastructure specialist with over 25 years’ experience across Government and Private sectors.
Most recently, Pascal was WSP’s ANZ Transport Executive for Network Performance and Asset Information Services. This followed 8 years as an Executive Director at Main Roads, Western Australia where his strong understanding of cost effective and innovative infrastructure delivery supported the State’s long-term plans and strategies for transport infrastructure assets.

Dr Ian Oppermann

Dr. Ian Oppermann is the NSW Government’s Chief Data Scientist working within the Department of Customer Service, and Industry Professor at University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
Ian has 27 years’ experience in the ICT sector and has led organizations with more than 300 people, delivering products and outcomes that have impacted hundreds of millions of people globally. He has held senior management roles in Europe and Australia as Director for Radio Access Performance at Nokia, Global Head of Sales Partnering (network software) at Nokia Siemens Networks, and then Divisional Chief and Flagship Director at CSIRO.
Ian is considered a thought leader in the area of the Digital Economy and is a regular speaker on “Big Data”, broadband enabled services and the impact of technology on society. He has contributed to 6 books and co-authored more than 120 papers which have been cited more than 3500 times. Ian has an MBA from the University of London and a Doctor of Philosophy in Mobile Telecommunications from Sydney University.
Ian is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia, a Fellow of the IEEE, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, a Fellow of the Royal Society of NSW, a Fellow and Immediate Past President of the Australian Computer Society, and a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. After various postings with Munich Re Group, including a period of eight years as President of Munich Re Japan, Heinrich joined Munich Re Australasia as General Manager Non-Life in 2003.
In 2005, Heinrich was appointed to the position of Managing Director of Munich Holdings of Australasia responsible for the life and non-life reinsurance and primary insurance operations of the Group in Australasia. In 2016 he retired from this role after 36 years of service for Munich Re Group.
